Rakuten Marketing’s Anthony Capano to champion borderless commerce in expanded role as managing director, Europe and Asia Pacific

Anthony Capano to direct global expansion of European operations and tap burgeoning digital advertising scene in Asia

London UK, 10th February 2018 – Rakuten Marketing, the world’s leading performance marketing company, today announces the appointment of Anthony Capano to the position of managing director of Europe and Asia Pacific.

The expansion of Anthony’s role to cover high growth UK and Continental European operations marks a significant strategic step. In Britain alone, as much as 35% of transactions driven for brands by Rakuten Marketing are now taking place overseas. As borderless commerce matures, the company is responding to the enormous growth potential for customers with greater global alignment.

Anthony comments, “As the world gets more connected, it’s time marketing reflected the way we shop. I’m very excited to be working so closely with European and British brands especially, the appetite for their products overseas is greater than ever. By providing the network and support they need, we’re going to be able to offer clients countless opportunities to grow.”

In particular, Anthony will accelerate integration and collaboration with the APAC operation, which has seen an 87 per cent business growth across affiliate marketing, display and retargeting, bolstered by attribution. Anthony’s role there has been transformational, from leading the Australian business since its days as a startup, to opening operations in Singapore and recently spearheading the Rakuten Marketing expansion in Asia.

A founding member of the IAB Affiliate Working Group in Australia, Anthony is in a unique position to drive further growth of the affiliate network in APAC, which has grown 66 per cent and now facilitates a staggering 100 million orders. Similarly, his work developing Rakuten Marketing Australia and Singapore operations taps into a burgeoning digital advertising market.

Much of the wider success has been driven by successful expansion into the Asia markets, where Anthony has been able to leverage over 18 years’ experience working alongside many of Asia-Pacific’s major retailers to help UK and US brands move beyond their borders and acquire new customers across the region.

Anthony will report into EVP, International, Mark Haviland, who adds, “Bringing Anthony to London means we can continue delivering the highest service levels to our European clients, whilst bringing innovation from APAC, where he has built from scratch one of our fastest growing businesses.
